Dutch music facility ramps up Super Audio CD production facilities
With a long tradition of excellence in classical recording and mastering, Netherlands-based Polyhymnia International is fast establishing itself as one of Europe’s leading Super Audio CD production facilities. The facility has topped 100 SA-CD productions in the last 12 months and news from Polyhymnia sees it ramping up production facilities with a major investment in SA-CD mastering facilities.

Last month saw Polyhymnia open its doors to the European press and music industry in a two-day showcase of its SA-CD production. “Super Audio CD is now at the centre of our business,” explains Everett Porter, General Manager at Polyhymnia International. “All of our new recordings are destined for immediate or eventual SA-CD release, such is the creative potential of this high-resolution multi-channel format.”

Polyhymnia has played a central role in the development of DSD multi-channel recording and mastering techniques over the last five years with expert audio engineers, such as Erdo Groot and Jean-Marie Geijsen, and producers like Hein Dekker, evolving production techniques which exploit the full power and potential of the SA-CD platform. Today, Polyhymnia is capable of recording immensely complicated music projects using its DSD recording system. Examples include 15 recording projects in Russia, including a full-length opera and orchestral recordings for the PentaTone label with the Russian National Orchestra.

This month alone sees ten SA-CD projects working their way through the facility for BMG Japan, Universal Music, Telarc and PentaTone including artists such as Mitsuko Uchida and Alfred Brendel. “SA-CD and DSD offer the industry something very special,” comments Porter. “They provide a natural evolution from CD in a world of multi-channel sound that offers an entirely new opportunity to the home music listener.
